Puthiyakavu – The Metropolitan Council of Mavelikara (MCA), under its dedicated leadership, gathered the faithful for a solemn commemoration of two foundational pillars of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church: Venerable Archbishop Mar Ivanios and Rt. Rev. Philipose Remban Cheppad. The observance took place with fitting reverence at the Puthiyakavu Malankara Catholic Church.
Rt. Rev. Philipose Remban Cheppad stands as one of the earliest and most steadfast companions of Mar Ivanios in the historic reunion with the See of Rome. His commitment and spiritual zeal were pivotal in shaping the nascent path of the Malankara Catholic community during its delicate formation.
The Metropolitan Eparchy of Trivandrum, formally established on 11 May 1933, saw His Grace Mor Ivanios enthroned as its first Metropolitan Archbishop amidst a gathering of venerable bishops and faithful. Among the dignitaries present at that foundational moment were Rt. Rev. Philipose Cheppad Remban, along with other towering figures such as His Grace Mar Augustine Kandathil and Rt. Rev. Joseph Pulikottil Ramban. Their united witness gave birth to the flourishing Church we embrace today.
This remembrance was not only a reflection on their sacred legacy but also an invitation for the faithful to renew their own dedication to the Gospel and ecclesial unity. Through prayer and fellowship, the MCA leadership and the faithful honoured these spiritual architects whose vision continues to inspire the Church’s mission.
May their memory remain a source of strength and a guiding light as we journey in faith, committed to the unity and renewal of our Malankara heritage.
