We witnessed a quiet yet meaningful moment this morning as His Eminent Beatitude Cardinal Moran Mor Baselios Cleemis Catholicos, the Father and Head of our Syro Malankara Catholic Church, exercised his right to vote in the first phase of the Kerala local body elections. His presence at the polling station reminded many of us that civic responsibility forms part of our shared call to witness truth and justice in public life.
The Catholicos arrived at the polling booth in Pattom Government Model G H S S, situated in the Kesavadasapuram ward of the capital. With calm composure, he marked his vote, offering a quiet example of how personal duty, faith, and social commitment can stand side by side without fanfare.
Accompanying the Catholicos were several members of the clergy who also recorded their votes. Among them was His Excellency Most Rev. Dr. Yoohanon Mar Alexios, the Auxiliary Bishop of the Major Archdiocese. They were joined by the Vicar General Fathers and other priests, each fulfilling their civic role with the same sense of responsibility we are invited to hold within our own communities.
After casting his vote, the Catholicos shared a brief reflection with the media. His words carried the gentle steadiness we have come to expect from him, reminding all present that participation in public processes stands as an important expression of our common life. Although the act itself was simple, many of us could sense the deeper reminder that moral citizenship begins with choices made quietly and faithfully.
