On 1 July 2025, the Syro Malankara Catholic Church began the solemn 15-day commemoration leading up to the 72nd memorial feast and the centenary of episcopal consecration of its revered founder, Venerable Archbishop Mar Ivanios. The sacred observance was inaugurated with a Holy Qurbono celebrated by His Excellency Most Rev. Dr. Antony Mor Silvanos at St. Mary’s Major Archiepiscopal Cathedral, Pattom, Trivandrum.
In a deeply moving scriptural reflection, Bishop Silvanos centred his message on ‘Venerable Mar Ivanios as a Servant of the Word,’ encouraging the faithful to embrace the enduring legacy of faith and unity that Archbishop Ivanios bequeathed to the Church.
Following the Eucharistic celebration, the community gathered in prayerful reverence at the tomb of Venerable Mar Ivanios. The incense prayer was led by His Eminent Beatitude Cardinal Moran Mor Baselios Cleemis Catholicos, Major Archbishop-Catholicos of the Syro Malankara Catholic Church. This moment of quiet devotion marked the beginning of a fortnight of remembrance and spiritual renewal.
This centennial commemoration invites the faithful to recall the prophetic leadership of Mar Ivanios, whose episcopal consecration on 1 May 1925 at Niranam shaped the course of the Syro Malankara Catholic Church’s history, fostering a spirit of communion and renewal that flourishes to this day.
As we enter these fifteen days of prayer and contemplation, may the example of Venerable Mar Ivanios inspire us to deepen our commitment to unity, faithfulness, and apostolic zeal in our own lives.
The Syro Malankara Catholic faithful offer their heartfelt gratitude for the blessings received through this great servant of God, praying that his memory continues to guide and sustain the Church in the years ahead.
