On Sunday, 6 July 2025, the faithful of the Syro Malankara Catholic Church in the Trivandrum Ecclesiastical District undertook a profound pilgrimage in honour of the 72nd memorial feast and centennial anniversary of Venerable Archbishop Mar Ivanios. From every parish within the district, the pilgrims set forth on foot, traversing the diverse landscapes of the region. This spiritual procession culminated at 4:30 PM at the tomb of the venerable father himself.
At the sacred resting place of Mar Ivanios, the faithful gathered for a solemn incense prayer led by His Eminent Beatitude Cardinal Moran Mor Baselios Cleemis Catholicos, Major Archbishop-Catholicos of the Syro Malankara Catholic Church, whose presence sanctified the moment with quiet dignity and heartfelt devotion. The incense rose like a silent hymn, a fragrant symbol of prayers ascending to the heavens.
Following this, the congregation returned to the cathedral, where the Most Reverend Fr. Dr. John Thekkekara, Vicar General of the Changanassery Major Archdiocese and Vicar of the Palayam Lourdes Shrine, celebrated the Holy Qurbono according to the Syro Malabar Rite. His sermon reflected on the enduring spiritual legacy of Venerable Mar Ivanios, inspiring the faithful to deepen their commitment to faith, unity, and service.
The day’s observance drew together diverse strands of the Christian tradition, reminding all present of the rich ecclesial communion that the Malankara Church shares with its sister churches. This pilgrimage and liturgical celebration served as a powerful testament to the enduring impact of Mar Ivanios’s vision on the life of the Church today.
As the commemoration progresses, the faithful are invited to embrace more fully the spirit of renewal and unity that their venerable father sought, continuing his mission with vigour and love.
