Mavelikara, India – The Malankara Catholic Youth Movement (MCYM) of the Mavelikara Diocese and the Yuvajana Varsham (Youth Year) as promulgated by the Kerala Catholic Bishops’ Council (KCBC) commenced with an inaugural ceremony at St. Mary’s Malankara Cathedral in Mavelikara, weaving a new narrative of fervour and commitment amongst the youth of the Syro Malankara Catholic Church.
In a harmonious collaboration between the Malankara and Latin rites of the Catholic Church, Bishop Dr. Joshua Mar Ignatios of the Malankara Catholic Diocese and Bishop Dr. Christudas Rajappan, the Auxiliary Bishop of the Latin Catholic Archdiocese of Thiruvananthapuram, spearheaded the inauguration, setting a tone of unity and ecumenical engagement.
The event brought together clergies and laypersons in a show of solidarity and shared vision. Fr. Mukalumpurathu Varghese (Dennis), Director of the Diocese, alongside Rev. Fr. Ayanuvelil John (Bijo), Assistant Director, provided spiritual oversight. Sister Niseema, a guiding force for the youth, was also present to animate the occasion.
As the President of the Diocese, Roshan Kallummel presided over the event with an evocative address. Jobin Vallikkunnam, the General Secretary, expressed the collective aspirations of the youth, emphasising their crucial role in the Church’s journey forward.
The stage also welcomed Shibin Shaji Chenkulam, the Kerala State Vice President of KCBC-YM, and Ranju Puliyil, Treasurer of the Mavelikara Diocesan MCYM.
Animating the ceremony with their presence and words were Jithin Shaji and Neethu Yohannan, both of whom are dynamic figures within the MCYM community, known for their dedication to youth ministry.
The inauguration of the MCYM Mavelikara Diocese and KCBC’s Youth Year heralds an era of youthful exuberance channelled towards faith formation, social responsibility, and the nurturing of potential leaders within the Syro Malankara Catholic Church. The gathered crowd left with renewed hope and enthusiasm, ready to embrace the manifold initiatives planned for the year ahead.
