The Inter-Diocesan Celebration of the Christ the King Feast and the Eucharistic Procession unfolded with deep devotion and grandeur on Sunday, November 24, 2024, at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Shimoga. The event, a hallmark of Christian unity, brought together the faithful, clergy, and religious from three rites: the Diocese of Shimoga (Latin Rite), the Syro-Malabar Diocese of Bhadravathi, and the Syro-Malankara Diocese of Puttur.

Unified Celebration of Faith

The celebration commenced with the Rosary at 4:30 PM, followed by the Holy Eucharist at 5 PM. The Eucharistic Mass was presided over by Most Rev. Dr. Francis Serrao SJ, Bishop of Shimoga, with Most Rev. Dr. Joseph Arumachadath, Bishop of Bhadravathi, and Most Rev. Dr. Geevarghese Mor Makarios, Bishop of Puttur, concelebrating. Bishop Makarios delivered an inspiring homily, reflecting on the kingship of Christ and its call to spiritual renewal.

Launch of the Diocesan YouTube Channel

A key highlight of the event was the launch of the Shimoga Diocese YouTube channel, envisioned by Fr. Vinuth Kumar, the communications director. The channel was inaugurated by Bishop Serrao, with Bishops Arumachadath and Makarios, as well as Monsignor Stany D’Souza, in attendance. The channel debuted with “Rakshane,” a collection of original compositions by the priests of the diocese, underscoring the mission of reaching the faithful through digital media.

Eucharistic Procession: A Public Witness of Faith

Following the Mass, the Eucharistic Procession wound its way through the streets of Shimoga City. Bishop Dr. Joseph Arumachadath carried the Monstrance in a vehicle adorned with symbolic beauty. Priests, including Fr. Roman Pinto, Fr. Santhosh Pereira, and Dn. Nishanth D’Costa, led the faithful in prayer throughout the procession, fostering a reverent atmosphere. The procession concluded with Adoration and a Solemn Eucharistic Blessing, bestowed by Bishop Arumachadath at the Cathedral.

Syro-Malankara Presence

The Syro-Malankara Catholic Church, represented by Most Rev. Dr. Geevarghese Mor Makarios, played a vital role in the celebration, reflecting the Church’s commitment to ecumenism and unity among Christian communities. Bishop Makarios’ presence and his homily added a distinctive spiritual dimension to the event, inspiring participants to embrace the love and kingship of Christ.

A Spirit of Gratitude

The celebration was made possible through the tireless efforts of clergy and lay faithful, led by Msgr. Very Rev. Fr. Stany D’Souza, Parish Priest and Dean of the Carmel Deanery. Fr. Stany expressed gratitude to all contributors for making the event a spiritually enriching and successful occasion.

The celebration not only highlighted the shared faith and unity of the Christian communities in Shimoga but also underscored the role of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church in fostering spiritual and communal harmony.
