Today, the Santhome Mobile Palliative Care ministry of the Eparchy of Pathanamthitta celebrated a momentous occasion with the official inauguration of its permanent centre at Ezhiyath House, located near Omalloor, Pathanamthitta. This serene riverside property, generously donated by the late Rev. Fr. Thomas Ezhiyath, now serves as the heart of a mission dedicated to bringing solace to the sick, elderly, and suffering.
Inauguration of the Palliative Care Centre
The inauguration, held on 7 January 2025, was graced by clergy, volunteers, and members of the faithful. The newly opened Santhome Palliative Care Centre reflects the Church’s mission to embody Christ’s compassion through service. This milestone represents months of tireless preparation and devotion from the ministry team, who aim to provide comprehensive care and comfort to those in need.
A Christmas Act of Mercy Inspires Hope
This ministry’s profound mission was recently exemplified during the Christmas season. While visiting homes to offer the Holy Qurbono, a priest encountered a bedridden mother relying on a rented oxygen concentrator, which imposed a significant financial strain on her family. Disturbed by the family’s plight, the priest promptly contacted Rev. Fr. Varghese Chamakalayil, the ministry coordinator. Within days, a brand-new oxygen concentrator was delivered to the family, alleviating their burden and offering them renewed hope.
This story of swift action and compassion encapsulates the ethos of the Santhome Mobile Palliative Care ministry, where addressing physical and spiritual needs go hand in hand.
The Journey of Santhom Mobile Palliative Care
The Santhom Mobile Palliative Care ministry began its outreach in October 2024, inspired by a vision to bring Christ’s mercy and healing to those battling illness and isolation. The newly inaugurated permanent centre at Ezhiath House symbolises a significant step forward in fulfilling this mission. From providing vital medical equipment like oxygen concentrators to offering emotional and spiritual support, this initiative has already impacted numerous lives.
Extending Christ’s Love: How You Can Help
The Santhom Palliative Care ministry invites the faithful to join hands in this mission of compassion. Whether through volunteering, financial contributions, or offering prayers, every act of support strengthens this ministry’s ability to serve the community. Together, we can embody Christ’s call to care for the sick and suffering.
As the ministry continues its work, it remains a beacon of hope, demonstrating the enduring spirit of love and service within the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church. Let us keep the Santhome Mobile Palliative Care ministry in our prayers, asking the Lord to bless its efforts and guide its mission to touch more lives with healing and hope.
