Damme, Germany – 3rd June, 2025
Recently, the parish hall in Damme, Germany, was filled with the joyful fellowship of a special gathering known as the “Breakfast of the India Travellers.” This event brought together participants from all three India pilgrimage trips organised by the local Catholic parish in the years 2017, 2019, and 2022.
Though not members of the Syro Malankara Catholic community themselves, these faithful German Catholics share a heartfelt connection with India through their travels and charitable outreach. Each guest contributed something to a rich and varied buffet, making the breakfast a true celebration of sharing and community. The gathering reflected the warmth and joy that travel and mission work can inspire across cultures.
The gathering was especially honoured by the presence of His Excellency Most Rev. Dr. Samuel Mor Irenios, Bishop of the Syro Malankara Catholic Diocese of Pathanamthitta in Kerala— the native diocese of Pastor Abraham Parappallil, who was also present. Bishop Mor Irenios, who was on an official pastoral visit to Germany, took the opportunity to meet with these dedicated travellers.
The Bishop expressed profound appreciation for the group’s ongoing support of the “Help for St. Alphonsa” initiative, a charitable project focused on aiding a retirement home in India. This initiative stands as a testament to the bonds of faith and solidarity that bridge continents and cultures.
Pastors Abraham Parappallil and Heiner Zumdohme, alongside Bishop Mor Irenios, shared in the spirit of gratitude and encouragement, recognising the importance of such friendships in building a universal Church.
This heartfelt event served as a reminder that the Church, while rooted in tradition and local communities, extends far beyond borders—connecting people in a shared mission of love, support, and mutual respect.
The Syro Malankara Catholic faithful rejoice in this example of international fellowship and pray that such bonds continue to flourish, nurturing faith and charity wherever God’s people gather.
