Pathanamthitta Hosts ‘Egeiro 2k24’ Women’s Conference with a Focus on Empowerment and Charity

Date:

The “Egeiro 2k24” Women’s Conference, hosted by the Malankara Syrian Catholic Church, concluded at St. Peter’s Cathedral in Pathanamthitta, showcasing a unique blend of empowerment, service, and solidarity. Organised by the Malankara Catholic Youth Movement (MCYM) of the Pathanamthitta Ecclesiastical District, this event not only addressed key issues affecting young women but also spearheaded a significant charity initiative supporting cancer patients.

Inaugurated by Bishop Dr. Samuel Mar Irenios Metropolitan, the event was attended by more than 200 young women from over 100 parishes. Distinguished guests, including social media influencer Aparna S (Quppi) and Joice Mary Antony, councillor of Muvattupuzha municipality, graced the occasion, enriching the discourse with their insights and experiences. Jisha Jose, president of MCYM Pathanamthitta Ecclesiastical District, played a key role in steering the conference activities.

One of the highlights of the conference was the hair donation event, a deeply empathetic initiative aimed at supporting cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy—a treatment that often results in significant hair loss. This gesture of donating hair for wig-making not only aids in restoring the self-esteem and confidence of the recipients but also serves as a powerful symbol of self-giving and community support.

The collected hair is set to be transformed into wigs in collaboration with Anugrha, the social service society of the Bhadrasana, ensuring that the donations directly benefit those in most need. This act of charity exemplifies the church’s ongoing commitment to service, aligning closely with its core values of empathy and support for the vulnerable.

The “Egeiro 2k24” conference successfully nurtured a sense of community and solidarity among the attendees, who left the event inspired and motivated. The inclusion of educational sessions conducted by notable figures like Joice Mary Antony, who is renowned for her contributions across social, political, industrial, and educational sectors, provided valuable knowledge and empowerment to the young women present.

As the conference wrapped up, the overwhelming participation and enthusiasm underscored the deep connection and commitment to faith-led service that characterises the Malankara Syrian Catholic Church. By merging spiritual development with practical support for societal causes, “Egeiro 2k24” has set a benchmark for future initiatives, proving that the church is not only a place of worship but also a source of hope and renewal for the community it serves.
