The Malankara Syrian Catholic Church recently hosted an impactful youth training program titled “Tanio 2024” at the Marthandam Integrated Development Society (MIDS) under the auspices of the Marthandam Diocese. The event, led by the Global MCYM committee, brought together 60 delegates from all dioceses, marking a significant stride in youth engagement and development across the church.
The program commenced with an official flag hoisting by Sr. Flower John DM, Sister Animator of MCYM Marthandom, setting a vibrant tone for the day’s events. The inauguration was graced by His Excellency Mathews Mar Polycarpos, Chairman of the Youth Commission, who emphasized the importance of nurturing young leaders within the church.
Presided over by Mr. Monu Joseph, President of Global MCYM, the opening session featured a dynamic presentation by Rev. Fr. Pradeep Vazhatharamalayil on “Youth Animation.” His insights provided valuable strategies for engaging youth effectively in church activities, which participants found both interesting and beneficial.
The afternoon session was led by Rev. Fr. Dr. Prabheesh George, Global Director of MCYM, who introduced this year’s theme, “Youth Pilgrims of Hope.” His session inspired the young attendees to view themselves as bearers of hope and active participants in their faith journey.
The concluding session included an interactive discussion with Most Rev. Dr. Vincent Mar Paulos, Bishop of Marthandom. He engaged with the youth on various aspects of youth animation and their pivotal role in the spiritual and community life of the church.
Notable contributions also came from Linu Daniel, Global General Secretary, along with Vice Presidents Aksa Rajan and Cyril Thomas, Secretary Sebin Mathew, and Rev. Fr. Johnny Alfred, Director of MCYM Diocese of Marthandom. Ashbin Richard, President of MCYM Marthandom, added to the robust discussions that characterized the meeting.
Also in attendance were directors from other regions, including Rev. Fr. Jose Mundaplavila (Gurgaon), Rev. Fr. Cherian Kurisummootil (Tiruvalla), and Rev. Fr. John Ayanuelil (Mavelikkara), along with Sister Animator Sr. Aleena SIC, highlighting the wide network and collaborative spirit that defines the MCYM.
“Tanio 2024” concluded with a powerful message from Bishop Dr. Vincent Mar Paulos, encapsulating the essence of the program and reinforcing the church’s commitment to its youth. This gathering not only equipped the young leaders with essential skills and knowledge but also reinforced their role as hope bearers within their communities, promising a brighter future for the Malankara Syrian Catholic Church.
