Quenching Thirst, Nurturing Awareness: Bodhana’s Initiative on World Water Day 2024

Date:

In a vital drive towards sustainability and health, the Bodhana initiative of the Thiruvalla Ecclesiastical District under the Syro Malankara Catholic Church marked World Water Day 2024 with a significant gesture. In a concerted effort to underscore the importance of clean drinking water, Bodhana provided free water filters to selected 100 families across the Niranam and Thalavady Panchayats.

The inaugural ceremony of the water filter distribution was graced by the presence of Aboon Thomas Mar Koorilos, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Thiruvalla, symbolizing the Church’s commitment to the welfare of its flock and the environment. The event, chaired by Bodhana Executive Director Fr. Bineesh Simon, witnessed active participation from the community, including the leadership of Bridjit Class from the primary health centre, exemplifying a united front in promoting health and well-being.

Father Joseph Karippayil, Vicar of Niranam St. Joseph’s Malankara Syrian Catholic Church, Jolly George, a Panchayat member, and Siji Mathew, the NRM Coordinator, delivered insightful addresses. They highlighted the pressing need for clean water access and the role of community and religious organisations in fostering environmental stewardship.

This initiative not only addresses immediate health concerns but also serves as an educational platform, raising awareness about water conservation and the critical challenges surrounding water scarcity. By integrating practical aid with awareness efforts, Bodhana exemplifies the Syro Malankara Catholic Church’s holistic approach to serving humanity and caring for creation.

As the filters begin to purify water in homes, they also symbolise a larger commitment to purifying and preserving our most precious resource. The event resonated with the message that ensuring clean water is not just an act of charity but a fundamental duty towards our fellow beings and the planet.

The collaborative spirit of Bodhana’s World Water Day initiative, supported by ecclesiastical leadership and community members, shines as a message of hope. It underscores the power of collective action in facing environmental challenges and reinforces the Church’s role in leading by example, ensuring a healthier future for all.
