On 29 June 2025, the Pushpagiri Medical College Hospital, Tiruvalla, organised a large-scale medical camp focused on the diagnosis of cataract disease. The event commenced with an inaugural address by Mr. Mathew T. Thomas, Member of the Legislative Assembly of Tiruvalla.
His Grace Most Rev. Dr. Thomas Mor Koorilos, Metropolitan Archbishop of Tiruvalla, graced the occasion with his presence, alongside notable dignitaries including Mr. George Abraham, President of the Pathanamthitta District Panchayat; Rev. Dr. Biju Varghese Payyampallil; Mr. Gigi Vattasseril, Vice Chairman of Tiruvalla Municipality; Mr. R. Jayakumar; Dr. Digin Mariam Joseph; and Dr. Asha George.
The camp, held from 9:00 in the morning until 1:00 in the afternoon, provided comprehensive cataract screening to attendees. Those requiring cataract surgery were offered free surgical treatment under the auspices of the Mar Stephanos project, reflecting the Church’s continued commitment to compassionate healthcare.
This medical initiative stands as a beacon of hope for many, especially those from vulnerable sections of society, ensuring that the gift of clear sight is accessible and affordable. The collaboration between medical professionals, civic leaders, and the Church serves as a profound example of community service grounded in faith and charity.
