The Syro-Malankara Catholic Church’s Year of the Word of God was officially launched in the Pathanamthitta Diocese with a grand celebration led by His Excellency Most Rev. Dr. Samuel Mor Irenios, the Bishop of Pathanamthitta. The diocesan-level inauguration took place at the Pathanamthitta Cathedral, marking the start of a year dedicated to the reading, study, and reflection on the Holy Bible for the faithful across the region.
This Year of the Word of God is a Church-wide initiative aimed at spreading a deeper connection with Sacred Scripture. In Pathanamthitta Diocese, this initiative will impact over 8,000 families spread across 100 parishes. Through this year-long journey, the diocese aims to encourage every household to engage more profoundly with the Bible by setting aside time for reading and studying the Word of God.
Inauguration and Bishop’s Message
During the inauguration, His Excellency Mor Irenios delivered a stirring message at the Pathanamthitta Cathedral, reflecting on the healing and life-giving power of the Word. He encouraged all participants to embrace the Scriptures in their daily lives, allowing the Word of God to bring clarity, peace, and spiritual vitality to their personal journeys. The Bishop’s address reminded the faithful that the Holy Bible is a source of strength and guidance, capable of healing the wounds of the heart and nurturing life through its divine messages.
As part of the Year of the Word launch, each family received a special Word of God Kit, which included a booklet providing an introduction to the initiative, a prayer card specifically for the year, and a blessed candle. The distribution of these kits to every home across the diocese further reinforced the Church’s commitment to supporting families in their Scriptural engagement throughout the year.
A Diocesan-Wide Commitment
The Pathanamthitta Diocese has placed a strong emphasis on ensuring that the Year of the Word of God reaches every corner of its community. By involving over 100 parishes and more than 8,000 families, the diocese aims to promote the reading, understanding, and living of the Bible on a large scale. Various activities, including Bible study groups, family prayer sessions focused on Scripture, and community discussions, will be held throughout the year to ensure that the Word of God continues to be a central part of the faithful’s lives.
