Bathery, 28th January 2024: The Malankara Catholic Youth Movement (MCYM) celebrated the inauguration of its Global Meet 2024, held at Bathery under the auspices of the Bathery Diocese on January 27 and 28, 2024. The event marked a pivotal occasion for youth leadership and church engagement within the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church.
The gathering was graced by the opening ceremony led by the venerable Thomas Mar Joseph, the Metropolitan of the Bathery Diocese. Angel Mary, the diocesan president of MCYM, chaired the meeting, which was attended by significant figures from the church’s youth community.
Subin Thomas, the General Secretary of MCYM, extended a warm welcome to the participants, while Father Dr. Prabheesh George, the diocesan director, delivered the introductory message. The event also saw the presence of Father Geevarghese Mathathil from the Bathery Diocese and the diocesan president Eby Abraham, who both offered felicitations.
The diocesan treasurer, Jobin David, expressed gratitude to all the attendees and contributors to the senate meeting. A special address was made by the Youth Commission Chairman, His Excellency Mathews Mar Polycarpos Episcopa, who spoke to the young attendees, encouraging their active participation in the life of the church.
This year’s senate meeting witnessed a remarkable turnout with approximately 150 youth leaders from the 12 dioceses of the Malankara Catholic Church, participating both online and offline. The two-day event served as a platform for discussion, planning, and reflection on the role of youth in the church’s mission.
The engagement and enthusiasm displayed at the senate meeting highlight the vibrant spirit of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church’s youth, ready to step into roles of leadership and service. The successful commencement of the meeting sets the stage for a year of dynamic activities and spiritual growth among the youth of the church.
