The Syro-Malankara Catholic Church is preparing for a momentous two-day celebration, honouring its 94th Reunion Anniversary alongside the Global Laity Conference. This grand event will be held on September 20-21, 2024, at VPS Malankara High School in Venganoor, also known as Mar Ivanios Nagar, hosted by the Parassala Diocese. The gathering marks a considerable occasion for the Church, celebrating its history, growth, and the enduring spirit of faith.
Day 1: September 20, 2024 – Evangelical Evening
The festivities will commence with an Evangelical Evening, led by the Church’s Evangelism Committee. This evening is expected to bring together thousands of faithful for an uplifting and spiritual experience, focusing on spreading the Gospel and reinforcing the Church’s commitment to its evangelical mission. The Holy Qurbono (Divine Liturgy) will be celebrated, drawing the faithful closer to their spiritual roots and marking the beginning of the anniversary festivities.
Day 2: September 21, 2024 – Key Highlights
The second day will begin with the raising of the Papal and Catholicos flags, symbolising the unity of the Syro-Malankara Church with the Holy See. Following this will be the much-anticipated Global Laity Conference at 8:00 AM, inaugurated by Cardinal Baselios Cleemis Catholicos, the head of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church. The conference will provide a platform for the laity to come together, share ideas, and discuss ways to further contribute to the Church’s mission. Abraham M. Pattiyani, President of the Global Laity Conference, will chair the proceedings, underlining the importance of the laity in the Church’s growth and development.
During the conference, awards will be presented to recognise outstanding contributions to the Church’s mission, with His Excellency Dr. Thomas Mor Eusebios, Bishop of Parassala, leading the ceremony. This event highlights the Church’s emphasis on the involvement of the laity in its spiritual and social missions worldwide.
MCCL and MCYM Events
The MCCL (Malankara Catholic Children’s League) Gathering and the MCYM (Malankara Catholic Youth Movement) International Youth Convention will also be prominent features of the celebration. These events are designed to engage the Church’s youth in activities that promote faith, leadership, and community service. The youth are seen as the future of the Church, and their participation in such gatherings helps cultivate strong bonds within the faith community.
Grand Divine Liturgy and Year of the Word Inauguration
The highlight of the second day will be the Grand Divine Liturgy at 10:30 AM, presided over by Cardinal Cleemis Catholicos, with the Bishop of Neyyattinkara, Dr. Vincent Samuel, as the chief guest. The liturgy is expected to draw a large number of faithful from across the region and beyond. Following the Holy Qurbono, the Inauguration of the Year of the Word will be carried out by Cardinal Cleemis Catholicos, setting the tone for a year dedicated to deepening the understanding and devotion to the Word of God.
A Call to All Faithful
This two-day celebration is not only a reflection of the Church’s rich history but also a renewal of its commitment to its mission in the modern world. The faithful residing in the area are encouraged to attend the Holy Mass and actively participate in the celebrations.
