Most Rev. Dr. Mar George Alenchery is the New Major Arch Bishop of Syro Malabar Church

Most Rev. Dr .George Alenchery, the Bishop of Thuckalay has been elected the new Major Archbishop of the Syro-Malabar Church. The announcement was made simultaneously at Vatican and Kochi on Thursday. Mar George Alenchery was elected during the Synod of election held from 23 to 26 at St. Thomas Mount Kakkanad,  headquarters of the church.  The announcement was made by Most Rev. Mar George Valiamattom, the President of this Synod.The Installation ceremony will be held at the St. Mary’s Cathedral Basilica on 29 May 2011.
