Divine Mercy Gathering Enlightens the Faithful in Thiruvananthapuram

Date:

A spiritually uplifting Divine Mercy Gathering was convened at St. Mary’s Malankara Syrian Catholic Church in Ayoor under the patronage of the Ayoor and Anchal Districts of the Major Archdiocese of Thiruvananthapuram. The gathering, which took place on the morning of 27 April 2024, was graced by the presence and leadership of the head and father of the church, His Beatitude Moran Mor Baselios Cardinal Cleemis Catholicos, who officiated the Holy Qurbono.

The event, symbolising the merciful embrace of the church, saw distinguished participation from the Bishop of St. Ephrem Khadki-Pune Eparchy, His Excellency Most Rev. Mathews Mar Pachomios, and the Auxiliary Bishop of the Major Archdiocese, His Excellency Most Rev. Dr. Mathews Mar Polycarpos, along with respected clergy who engaged in the Holy Qurbono. A congregation comprising esteemed priests, religious, and lay representatives from the Major Archdiocese participated with fervour and devotion.

The Divine Mercy is a cornerstone of Catholic spirituality, embodying the boundless compassion and love of God for humanity. Stemming from the revelations to Saint Faustina Kowalska, the Divine Mercy emphasises God’s willingness to grant grace and forgiveness to all who seek it, symbolised by the iconic image of Jesus with rays of mercy streaming from His heart. This powerful message underpins the belief that God’s mercy is greater than our sins, offering hope and renewal to believers. It encourages Christians to not only receive God’s mercy but also to act as vessels of mercy towards others, thus living out the teachings of Christ. In a world fraught with challenges, the Divine Mercy serves as an illuminating light, assuring the faithful of God’s constant presence and unwavering mercy in their lives.

In a continuation of the day’s spiritual nourishment, Rev. Fr. Daniel Poovannathil delivered an enlightening talk on Divine Mercy, echoing the message of forgiveness and grace. The gathering culminated with a solemn procession and blessing, followed by a communal meal that brought together the faithful in fellowship and reflection.

This Divine Mercy Gathering not only fortified the spiritual life of the participants but also reinforced the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church’s commitment to nurturing a community rooted in compassion and mercy. The convergence of clergy and laity in prayer and contemplation served as a reaffirmation of their shared faith and dedication to the church’s mission of mercy.
