Under a sky heavy with clouds, as if the earth itself paused in silent reflection, the newly installed Calvary Cross at St. Mary’s Malankara Major Seminary in Pattom was solemnly blessed by His Eminence Cardinal Moran Mor Baselios Cleemis Catholicos, Major Archbishop-Catholicos of the Syro Malankara Catholic Church. The day was overcast, the air pregnant with the soft promise of rain, yet during the sacred rite the heavens held their tears, allowing the faithful to gather in prayerful reverence beneath a calm sky.
This Seminary, a nurturing ground for countless priests who have carried the message of Christ, within and beyond the shores of Kerala, stands as a living testimony to the Church’s call to love and service. Since its founding in 1983, St. Mary’s Malankara Major Seminary has been entrusted with a solemn task—to mould hearts and minds to serve God’s people with devotion and humility. Here, the sacred flame of priestly vocation has been passed from generation to generation, each seminarian a thread in the fabric of the Church’s mission.
The blessing of the Calvary Cross is a profound symbol of that commitment. It embodies the cross-shaped path all priests are called to follow—a path marked by sacrifice, compassion, and unyielding faith. The Cross now stands at the Seminary’s grounds as a constant reminder that the priesthood is not a calling to ease but a journey into the very heart of Christ’s love.
Surrounded by the verdant hills of Nalanchira and the gentle hush of Pattom, the Seminary breathes life into the Church’s future. The atmosphere was heavy with a sacred stillness as Cardinal Cleemis invoked God’s blessing upon the Cross, inviting the seminarians and faithful to contemplate the mystery of the Cross that transforms suffering into hope, and death into new life.
This moment, though simple in appearance, carried a weight of spiritual significance. It beckoned all who walk the Seminary’s paths to renew their dedication to Christ and to one another. As the rain clouds gathered anew beyond the Seminary walls, those present felt the quiet assurance that this holy place remains steadfast—a sanctuary for prayer, formation, and the sending forth of shepherds for the Syro Malankara Catholic Church.
May the Cross inspire all who dwell here to live with courage and love, embracing the mission that Archbishop Mar Ivanios entrusted to our forebears and that we now carry with humble hearts into the world.
