As we prepare to embrace the joy and renewal of Christmas, the Eparchy of St. Mary Queen of Peace has announced an inspiring initiative to strengthen the spiritual leadership of the Church. The newly launched “Support Our Future Shepherds” campaign aims to raise $100,000 annually to support the education and formation of seminarians.

This year, the campaign highlights the needs of two dedicated seminarians, Bro. Christopher Thomas and Bro. George Thomas Kochumalil, as they journey toward priesthood to serve the faithful as future priests of the Eparchy.

A Vision for the Church’s Future

His Excellency, Most Rev. Dr. Philipos Mar Stephanos Thottathil, emphasised the importance of nurturing vocations during the campaign’s announcement:

“Our seminarians are the future of our Church. They will guide the faithful, inspire with the Word of God, and bring Christ’s love to all. This initiative ensures they receive the formation, education, and resources necessary to lead our Eparchy with faith and integrity.”

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Rev. Sr. Eymard SIC, a respected member of the Sisters of the imitation of Christ and a devoted servant of the Thiruvananthapuram Province. Sr. Eymard, aged 82, was called to her eternal rest, leaving behind a life dedicated to the service of the Church and her community.

Life of Faith and Service

Hailing from the Thumpamon Pilassery Kizhakkethil family, Sr. Eymard faithfully served the Church through her religious vocation. She was the beloved sister of the late Rev. Fr. Francis Xavier Pilassery OIC, who also served the Church with great devotion.

Funeral Arrangements

The funeral proceedings for Sr. Eymard will be held on Wednesday, 4 December 2024, as follows:

  • 6:00 AM: The mortal remains will be brought to the Provincial House at Nalanchira, Trivandrum.
  • 3:30 PM: Funeral rites will begin, followed by the burial service.

The Thiruvananthapuram Province of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church, along with her family, mourns the loss of Sr. Eymard and honours her life of faith, humility, and dedication to Christ. Her unwavering commitment to the Church’s mission will remain an inspiration for all who knew her.

The Malayalam translation of Pope Francis’ encyclical “Dilexit Nos” (“He Loved Us”), centred on the Sacred Heart of Jesus, was officially released on Sunday by His Eminent Beatitude Moran Mor Baselios Cardinal Cleemis Catholicos, the Major Archbishop-Catholicos of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church and President of the Kerala Catholic Bishops’ Council (KCBC).

The launch ceremony witnessed the presence of Rev. Fr. Peter Chakiath OCD, Provincial of the OCD Malabar Province, and Fr. James Alakkuzhiyil OCD, the translator and Director of Carmel Publish House. Rev. Fr. Thomas Kurishingal OCD also graced the event.

A Call to Restore the Heart of the World

In his fourth encyclical, “Dilexit Nos,” Pope Francis urges humanity to reclaim its heart in a world losing its essence due to war, socio-economic inequalities, and the overwhelming growth of technology. The Pope highlights that recovering the divine and human love of Christ can address these challenges and inspire transformation.

This profound encyclical, released on 24 October 2024, seeks to remind a troubled world that the Sacred Heart of Christ is the remedy for its afflictions. Pope Francis emphasises that love and compassion must be central in addressing the brokenness of our times.

The release of “Dilexit Nos” marks Pope Francis’ fourth encyclical. His previous documents include:

The eighth season of the renowned Gloria Christmas Carol Competition and Ecumenical Gathering, hosted by St. Thomas Malankara Syrian Catholic Church, Thane, under the Eparchy of St. Ephrem, Khadki – Pune, concluded with resounding success. This annual event, known for uniting various Christian denominations in celebration of Christmas, showcased an incredible spirit of unity, faith, and music.

Celebrating the Champions and Runners-Up
St. Thomas Malankara Catholic Church, Borivali, emerged as the champions, achieving a historic hat-trick victory by securing the first prize for three consecutive years (2022, 2023, and 2024). They were closely followed by St. Gregorios Syrian Jacobite Church, Mulund, who bagged the second prize, and St. Mary’s Marthoma Syrian Church, Kalyan West, claiming the third prize.

The Season’s Highlights
This year’s competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from 14 parishes across Mumbai, Thane, Kalyan, Navi Mumbai, and Pune regions. The event brought together parishes representing Syro-Malabar, Syrian Orthodox, Syrian Jacobite, Syrian Mar Thoma, and Syro-Malankara Catholic Churches, reflecting the true essence of ecumenism.
