Bishop Eusebius to Ordain Deacon Michael Edathil to the Priesthood on 6 July 2013

Elmont, NY –  – On Saturday, July 6, 2013, the Most Reverend Thomas Mar Eusebius, Bishop of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Exarchate in the USA, will ordain Deacon Michael Edathil to the priesthood. Deacon Edathil has been in formation at the Saint Joseph Seminary, Dunwoodie, NY and the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception, Huntington, NY. He also completed a year of philosophical studies in India. He will be the first priest ordained for the Syro-Malankara Catholic Exarchate and the first ordained by His Excellency. The Mass of Ordination will be National Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa in Doylestown, PA.

Year of Faith Bible Convention – USA

In connection with the Year of Faith and under the auspices of the Exarchate’s Bible Apostolate, the Syro-Malankara Catholic Apostolic Exarchate in the USA will be hosting a Bible Convention preached by renowned homilist and preacher, Rev. Fr. Bobby Jose Kattikadu, O.F.M.Cap. The Bible Convention will be held on July 12-14, 2013, in the Auditorium of Saint Vincent DePaul Parish in Elmont, NY. During the Bible Convention there will be exposition and adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament, recitation of the Most Holy Rosary, and opportunities for confession, as well as the celebration of the Holy Qurbono.

Meeting of the Representatives of Malankara Catholic Communities in the Middle East

A meeting of the priests and representatives from various countries in the Middle East was held on 11th June 2013 in Dubai. Reverend Dr. John Padipurackal, Kuwait (Ecclesiastical Coordinator, Syro-Malankara Catholic Church in the Extra Territorial Region in Middle East) and Reverend Fr. Mathew Kandathil, Dubai, lead the discussions of the meeting. The main agenda of the Meeting was the Gulf Meet which is going to be held on 15th and 16th of July 2014 in Trivandrum. The participants also discussed the situation of pastoral and spiritual care of various Malankara Catholic communities in the Gulf Region. The meeting also attended to the faith formation of youth and children, secular education of children going to India and rehabilitation of those return to India due to some or other reasons.

The next will be held in February 2014 in Dubai to discuss again the arrangements for the Gulf Meet in July 2013.

Blessing of the newly built Malankara Catholic Church in Surat

St. Mary’s Malankara Catholic Church, Surat was blessed by His Beatitude Moran Mor Baselios Cardinal Cleemis Catholicos on 08-06-2013 in the presence of His Excellency Rt. Rev. Dr. Godfrey Rosario, the Bishop of Baroda and His Excellency Rt. Rev. Dr. Jacob Mar Barnabas, Apostolic Visitator, MCC ETRI, Rev. Fr. Mathai Kadavil O.I.C, Provincial Superior, Bethany Navajyothi Province, former vicars, delegates from all over ETRI and fathers and the faithful from different Christian denominations in large numbers.

The liturgy of the blessing of the Church began after a ceremonial and liturgical welcome to the Cardinal and Bishops at 4.00 p.m. A solemn Pontifical Holy Qurbono was concelebrated by the Bishops and fathers. Twenty children from Ahmedabad, Baroda and Surat received the First Holy Communion on this holy and auspicious day from the hands of the Cardinal.

In the Public meeting held at 8.00 pm along with the Cardinal, Bishops and fathers, the local MLA Mrs. Sangeetaben Patil, religious heads from Hindu, Islam and Sikh community participated. The meeting was purely ecumenical with due representation from Latin and Syro Malabar rites, the Orthodox and Jacobite Church, Marthoma Church and other Christian denominations.

New Chancery and Bishop’s Residence for the Exarchate in USA

Elmont, NY – Thanks to the generosity of Bishop William Murphy and the Diocese of Rockville Centre, the Syro-Malankara Catholic Exarchate in the USA has a new chancery and bishop’s residence. The new chancery was formerly the rectory of the Saint Vincent DePaul Parish in Elmont, NY.

On Sunday, June 2, following the Holy Qurbono at the St. John Chrysostom Pro-Cathedral, the new chancery will be blessed by the Bishop of the Exarchate. In addition to being the official residence of the Bishop of the Exarchate, the chancery will also house the offices of the Bishop, Vicar General, Chancellor, and Secretary to the Bishop. It will also serve as the venue for exarchial meetings, including the Pastoral Council. The purchase of the building reflects the growth of the Exarchate and the continued fraternal relationship between the Syro-Malankara Catholic Apostolic Exarchate in the USA and the Diocese of Rockville Centre.

Cardinal Cleemis School of Management Studies (CCSMS) Begins Class this Academic Year

The Syro-Malankara Catholic Church, under the leadership of the Major Archdiocese of Trivandrum begins a new venture for the management studies in India. The Cardinal Cleemis School of Management Studies situated in Mar Ivanios Vidhya Nagar, Nalanchira, Trivandrum is opening a wider horizon for the higher studies in the capital city of Kerala. The first batch of PGDM with 60 students will commence the studies in this academic Year. With the recognition of IICTE, it will function in collaboration with major universities and institutes abroad. The vision of establishment is “To mould citizens with social commitment along with studies”, Said Moran Mor Baselios Cardinal Cleemis Catholicos, the Father and Head of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church and the Chairman of the CCSMS, during a press conference held on Sunday 2 June 2013. The institute will ensure the placement of all who successfully complete, in and abroad India.

CCSMS will function under the auspicious leadership and vision of His Beatitude Moran Mor Baselios Cardinal Cleemis Catholicos (the Chairman) and His Excellency Most Rev. Dr. Samuel Mar Irenios (Vice-chairman). Rev. Fr. Kasmin Raj SJ (former Director, Loyola Institute of Business Management & Administration, Chennai) and Rev. Fr. Joseph Christy SJ (Former Director, St. Xaviers Institute of Management Studies, Chennai) are the Chief Advisors of CCSMS. Mr. Jacob Punnoose IPS (former DGP, Kerala) Mr. John Mathai IAS & Mrs. Lissy Jacob IAS (former Chief Secretaries of Kerala), Dr. Jacob Thomas (Former Chairman, Cochin Port Trust), Mukesh Kapila (University of Manchester), Dr. Justin Paul (University of Washington), Dr. Hermen Muge (Expert in Management) and Dr. Jerald (University of Texas) are the members of the Advisory Body.

Dr. Jabamala (the former principal-advisor, The Director of the Industrial Development Organization of the UNO will be the first director and Rev. Fr. Biju Thomas Chavadimuruppel will be the administrator of the CCSMS.

Worldwide Eucharistic Adoration

The Holy Father Pope Francis will lead a Worldwide Eucharistic Adoration, at St. Peter’s Basilica at 5:00pm, on Sunday, 2 June 2013. This will long for one hour. The theme of the adoration is “One Lord, One Faith”. It is a historical event, for the first time in the history the cathedrals of the world will be synchronized with Rome and will, for an hour, be in communion with the Pope in Eucharistic adoration. The episcopal conferences took initiative to extend this time of adoration at all levels, like parishes, lay associations, and religious congregations, especially cloistered ones.” For the Church of India, the CBCI and for the Church of Kerla the KCBC had announced special mandate for conducting this Eucharistic Adoration in all parishes. The authorities asked that those who are unable to attend the same shall spend an hour in special prayers at their houses.

In all Cathedrals and parishes of Syro-Malankara Catholic Church the Adoration will be held between 8.30 and 9.30pm. His Beatitude Moran Mor Baselios Cardinal Cleemis Catholicos will lead the Eucharistic Adoration that will be held at St. Mary’s Cathedral Pattom. The Metropolitans will lead the adoration in their respective Cathedrals.

Rev. Sr. Mary Michel D.M is called to eternal rest

Rev.Sr. Mary Michel D.M of St. Nirmala Province of the Daughters of Mary Congregation is called to eternal rest on Thursday 23 May 2013. She was 60 years old. She belongs to Kanjirathunkal family, Pala. She served as a teacher in various schools such as Adoor, Ayoor, Kanchiyode, Nellimoodu, Punnavoor and Malayinkeezhu. Funeral service will be held on Friday 25 May 2013, at Nellimoodu Convent. His Excellency Most Rev. Samuel Mar Irenios, Auxiliary Bishop of Major Archieparchy, will officiate the funeral service.

Deacon Michael Receives MDiv

Huntington — On Tuesday, May 21, 2013, Deacon Michael Edathil received his Master of Divinity degree from the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception. The degree is awarded at the successful completion of four years of theological training. Along with his classmates, he received his Master of Divinity (MDiv) from the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception. In addition to the MDiv degree, the Seminary offers a Master of Arts in Pastoral Studies for candidates to the permanent diaconate, as well as a Master of Arts degree for seminarians and laity. And so, many others also graduated on this day.

Bishop Eusebius and the bishop’s secretary, Rev. Abraham Lukose, attended the ceremony representing the Exarchate. Members of Deacon Edathil’s family were also in attendance. The Exarchate is grateful to Bishop Murphy for his assistance in providing scholarships so that Deacon Edathil might study at the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception.

Deacon Michael will be ordained to the priesthood on July 6, 2013.
