Karunayude Yuvajana Sakshikal – MCYM Dubai

The youth of MCYM Dubai organized a labor camp visit on the 6th of May 2016. Donations were received from the members of the Dubai Malanakara Catholic Community and others for about a month. Basic necessities such as telephone cards, toiletries and food items were all packed into separate boxes and handed over to various rooms in three different camps.

Over 35 MCYM members were present at various locations to assist with the transportation and distribution of the packs. In spite of the scorching heat they executed the plan with utmost energy and enthusiasm. Representatives from the Dubai Malankara Catholic Community Managing Committee were also present to provide support to the youth.

Sargothsavam 2016 – United Arab Emirates

The Second Edition of Sargothsavam (Teens n Kids Talent Festival of the UAE Malankara Catholic Community) came to its conclusion by 5pm on 5th of May at the St. Anthony of Padua Church in Ras Al Khaimah. In a competition where over 120 children from 5 Units, contested in 23 items, the first three places were secured by Sharjah, Dubai and Fujairah and 4th, 5th and 6th by Abu Dhabi, Al-Ain and Ras Al Khaimah respectively.

The event started at 10:00 am with an inaugural meeting in which the Event Convener Mr. Biran Philip made the welcome speech. This was followed by presidential address by Mr. Paulson Manapurathu, the President of UAE Malankara Catholic Community Central Committee. Rev. Fr. Mathew Kandathil (Senior Chaplain of the UAE Malankara Catholic Community) then spoke a few words and inaugurated the event by lighting the lamp in the presence of the event Director and Chaplain of the UAE Malankara Catholic Community Rev. Fr. Philip Payyampalli. Fr. Thomas Ambattukuzhi, Parish Priest of RAK Church gave a felicitation speech in which he wished the event all the Blessings. Mr. Sam Joseph the Treasurer of the UAE Central Committee gave a Vote of Thanks.

By 10:30am all the 5 stages got active with individual competitions. After lunch, the entire crowd gathered at the main stage to witness group competitions. The final event of the evening was Senior’s Quiz, followed by the prize distribution ceremony. Medals and Certificates were presented to the winner of all individual and group events by the various Central Committee and other members in the dais. The General Secretary of the UAE Malankara Catholic Community Mr. Roji Cherian Thirumulapuram gave the official Vote of thanks which was followed by the distribution of the ever rolling trophies by the Event Director Rev. Fr. Philip Payyampallil, whose guidance led the event turning out to be a bigger success than the previous edition.

New Appointments and Farewells at the Catholicate Centre

Moran Mor Baselios Cardinal Cleemis Catholicos appointed Rt. Rev. Msgr Geevarghese Mannikkarot Corepiscopa as the Director of the Catholicate Centre. He took charge on May 4, 2016.

On completion of the term of the congregation of the Sisters of the Imitation of Christ (SIC), Moran Mor Baselios Cardinal Cleemis Catholicos appointed Reverend Sisters from the Congregation of the Daughters of Mary for various apostolic services at the Catholicate Centre.  Rev. Sr Mercy Francis D.M (Punjab Province), Rev. Sr Flower Maria D.M (Chandha Province), Rev. Sr Caroline D.M (Bathery Province) took charge of various ministries in the Curia.

Farewell

After five years of dedicated services at the Catholicate Centre, the Bethany sisters (Rev. Sr Santhi SIC (Tiruvalla), Rev. Sr Ivania SIC (Muvattupuzha), Rev. Sr Savitha SIC (Bathery)) have gone back to their respective provinces. A farewell get together was conducted in the presence of His Beatitude Moran Mor Baselios Cardinal Cleemis Catholicos and His Excellency Most Rev. Thomas Mar Anthonios, the Curia Bishop, at the Catholicate Centre.

Rt. Rev Msgr Dr John Kochuthundil appointed Syncellus of the Major Archieparchy of Trivandrum

His Beatitude Moran Mor Baselios Cardinal Cleemis Catholicos appointed Rt. Rev Msgr Dr John Kochuthundil, Syncellus of the Major Archieparchy of Trivandrum. He will also serve as the Chancellor of the Major Archieparchy.

He took charge on 4th May 2016.

He holds a doctorate in canon law.

The New Vicar General served the Major Archieparchy in various capacities like Rector of the Minor and Major Seminary, Chancellor of the Curia, Rector of the Basilica, President of the Tribunal of the Major Archiepiscopal Curia, etc.

At present he is the core team co-coordinator of Catholic Bishop’s Council of India (CBCI) and Syncellus of the Eparchy of St. Chrysostom, Gurgaon.

Newly Professed Sisters at the Daughters of Mary

Four novices and two junior sisters from the Congregation of Daughters of Mary of the Amala province, received the first and final professions, during the Holy Mass celebrated by Most Rev. Thomas Mar Antonios OIC at St Ephrem Exarchate, Pune on 28 April 2016.

99th Birthday Celebrations of Most Rev. Dr Philipose Mar Chrysostom

Moran Mor Baselios Cardinal Cleemis, the Major Archbishop-Catholicos of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church, participated in the 99th birthday celebrations of Most Rev. Dr Philipose Mar Chrysostom, the Valiyametropolita of the Mar Thoma Church.  It was inaugurated by Shri Kadakampalli Surendran, honorable minister of Energy and Devasom.

Felicitating the senior most metropolitan of Kerala, the Major Archbishop Catholicos said: “Most Rev. Dr. Philipose Mar Chrysostom is a common patrimony of the Kerala society. We can experience the love in its fullness in the personality of the great Metropolitan. He is a unique source of goodness that can transmit positive energy to others.” His Beatitude also applauded His Grace Joseph Mar Barnabas who was celebrating the 40th year of the sacerdotal ordination and said: “He is a shining symbol of the Mar Thomas Church”.

Many dignitaries in and around Trivandrum felicitated both the metropolitans.

Church officials meet Prime Minister, request to invite Pope to India

Catholic Church officials in India met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday requesting him to invite Pope Francis to India and also to personally lead a delegation for the canonization of Mother Teresa in the Vatican in September.

Cardinal Baselios Cleemis, president of the Indian bishops’ conference met with Modi in New Delhi. He was accompanied by Bishop Theodore Mascarenhas, the conference’s secretary-general, and Father Joseph Chinnayyan, deputy secretary-general.

The group requested the prime minister to formally invite Pope Francis to visit India.

Cardinal Cleemis also asked Modi to personally lead India’s official delegation for the canonization of Mother Theresa scheduled for Sept. 4 at the Vatican.

The prime minister “appreciated the sentiments of the bishops and assured that he would favorably consider the proposal,” Father Chinnayyan said.

The church delegation also thanked Prime Minister Modi for the government’s continued efforts to rescue Salesain Father Tom Uzunnalil, who was abducted in Yemen early March. They requested the prime minister to “personally intervene for the safe release” of the priest.

The Church delegation also promised Indian Catholics support for the many initiatives Prime Minister has taken to India “self reliant and to improve the standard of life of millions of the rural and weaker sections of the society,” said a press release from the conference.

Meeting of the Pastoral Council, USA

A meeting of the Eparchial Pastoral Councils was held on Saturday, April 23 at the Eparchial Chancery. His Excellency Mar Eusebius presided over the meeting. His Excellency gave an update of the major activities and developments of the Eparchy in the recent past and also of the forthcoming major Eparchial events such as the priestly ordination of Deacon Jerry Mathew, annual retreat for priests and sisters, Malankara Bible Convention, Mar Ivanios Day, Religious Profession of Jocelyn Edathil, etc.. The financial accounts of the year 2015 were presented in the meeting by Rev. Fr. Augustine Mangalath, the Finance Officer of the Eparchy. Besides Rev. Fr. Augustine Mangalath and Mr. John Varghese, the secretaries of the Council, around 30 members participated in the meeting. The meeting was concluded with the noon prayers and lunch.

Bro. Ajo Jose ordained deacon

During his visit to Europe, Bishop Chrysostom ordained Bro. Ajo Jose as Deacon. Ajo Jose has been doing his theological studies at Urbaniana University, Rome, The Ceremony officiated by His Grace Yoohonon Mar Chrysostom was conducted at 5.30 pm (indian time) on 23rd of April, 2016 at Urbaniana Seminary Chapel. Rector and professors of the Seminary and the priests and sisters of Malankara Catholic Church at Rome were present in the Ceremony.

Suvishesha Sangam for Children

The Syro-Malankara Catholic church commenced a first ever Suvisesha Sangam for children. Conducted on the 19th and 20th of April 2016, a few parishes under the Major Archieparchy of Thiruvananthapuram chose children studying between the classes 7th and 12th, to form the Suvisesha Sangam with apt training and guidance. The programme was conducted at the Catholicate Centre with 92 participating students.

Very Rev. Msg. Mathew Manakarakavil, the Vicar General of Major Archeparchy delivered a beautiful message with blessings for the children. Rev. Fr Antony Kakkanatt, Rev. Sr Francina D.M, Rev. Sr Mary Prasada D.M and the members of Suvisesha Sangam — Dr Thomaskutty Panchickal, Dr Jibi Varghese, Dr Joju John guided the classes. Holy mass was celebrated at the tomb of Mar Ivanios followed by dhoopaprarthana. Accommodation was provided at the Catholicate Centre along with prayer and Holy confession for the spiritual awakening of the children. In order to form a religious belief, the children were given 10 directions to follow.

The Sangam decided to organize the next programme on 11 June 2016.
