Reunion Anniversary at Pathanamthitta

 

The Syro-Malankara Catholic Church celebrates the 82nd Reunion anniversary together with the consecration of the Cathedral of the new Eparchy of Pathanamthitta, with various programmes, from 17 to 21 September 2012.

His Beatitude Bechara Boutros al-Rahi, the Patriarch of the Maronite Syrian Catholic Church, is the chief guest of the celebrations. The celebrations began with the “Pathanamthitta Malankara Catholic Convention on 17 September. The convention was inaugurated by His Excellency Most Rev. Samuel Mar Irenios, the Auxiliary Bishop of Trivandrum. The annual gathering of the members of MCA, MCYM and MCCL will be held on 20 September. Honourable Ministers Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, K.C. Joseph, and P. J. Joseph will participate in the meetings. On the same day at 2.00 p.m., a grand reception will be accorded to His Beatitudes Moran Mor Bechara Boutros al-Rahi, Moran Mor Baselios Cleemis Catholicos and all the Bishops of our Church. It will be followed by the consecration of the newly constructed Cathedral of the Eparchy of Pathanamthitta. The Patriarch of the Maronite Syrian Catholic Church will give the homily. This will be followed by a public meeting which will be inaugurated by His Beatitude,the Catholicos. Representatives of various Churches and leaders from social and political fields will participate in it.

The solemn Pontifical concelebrated Holy Qurbono of the Reunion Day will be at 8 a.m. on 21 September. His Eminence Cardinal Mar George Alanchery, the Major Archbishop of the Syro-Malabar Church will deliver the homily during the Holy Qurbono. It will be followed by the public meeting which will be presided over by His Beatitude the Catholicos. Sri Oommen Chandy, the Honourable Chief Minister of Kerala will inaugurate the meeting. His Beatitude Moran Mor Bechara Boutros al-Rahi will give the benedictory address. Prof. P.J. Kurian, the Deputy Speaker of Rajya Sabha and other dignitaries from social and political fields will participate in it. The celebrations will conclude with the Re-union Day Rally to the Sacred Heart Malankara Syrian Catholic Church Mylapra.

Maronite Patriarch visits Kerala

 

His Beatitude Moran Mor Bechara Boutros al-Rahi, Patriarch of the Maronite Syrian Catholic Church, reached Kerala today as the guest of the state government. His Beatitude Moran Mor Baselios Cleemis Catholicos, the Major Archbishop of Syro- Malankara Catholic Church, welcomed the Patriarch at the Trivandrum International Airport at 9 a.m. and gave a warm reception at the Major Archbishop’s House, Pattom. The Patriarch attended the press conference at 3 p.m. and after that visited Queen of Peace Basilica, Palayam and St. Mary’s Cathedral, Pattom. His Beatitude was given a grand reception at the Major Archiepiscopal Curia at 5.30 p.m.

The Patriarch will concelebrate the blessing of St. Peter’s Cathedral, Pathanamthitta on 20 September and will be the chief guest of the Reunion Day celebrations on 21 September. His Beatitude will address the Syro-Malankara Catholic Holy Episcopal Synod on the same day and will visit St. Ephrem Ecumenical Research Institute, Kottayam and St. Joseph’s Cathedral, Muvattupuzha on 22 September. His Beatitude will return from Nedumpassery Airport on 23 September.

His Beatitude Moran Mor Bechara Boutros al-Rahi, the 77th Patriarch of the Maronite Syrian Catholic Church, visits India the first time. The Centre of the Maronite Syrian Catholic Church, with 35 lakhs faithful, is in Lebanon.

Grotto blessed at Chippanchira

 

The newly constructed Grotto of St. Mary’s Malankara Syrian Catholic Church at Chippanchira, Trivandrum was blessed by His Beatitude Moran Mor Baselios Cleemis Catholicos, the Major Archbishop of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church, on Sunday 9 September 2012. Rev. Sisters, religious and faithful were present during the function. Rev. Fr. Justin Neelarathala is the parish priest.

Fourth Phase of the Training Programme of the Suvishesha Sangham

The fourth phase of the training programme of the Suvishesha Sangam was held at the Catholicate Centre, Pattom, from 20 to 24 August 2012.

The training Programme commenced at 9.30 am. on 20 August with prayer service led by Rev. Dr. Antony Kakkanatt, General Secretary of the Suvishesha Sangam at the tomb of the Servant of God Archbishop Mar Ivanios. Classes were given in various subjects by Most Rev. Jacob Mar Barnabas, Rev. Dr. Antony Kakkanatt, Rev. Fr. James Thomas SAC, Rev. Dr. Zacharias Kariyilakkulam OCD, Rev. Sr. Dr. Namita SIC, Rev. Sr. Dr. Mary Prasad DM and Rev. Sr. Francina DM. A mission visit programme was arranged and the members of the Suvishesha Sangam visited the parishes of the Major Archieparchy of Trivandrum and Eparchy of Marthandam on 22 August. The programme concluded with lunch on 24 August.

New Malayalam Translation of the Bible Released

 

Malayalam translation of the revised New Testament of the POC Bible was released on 28 August 2012 at. Pastoral Orientation Centre, Kochi. His Eminence Mar George Cardinal Alencherry, the Major Archbishop of the Syro-Malabar Church released the revised Holy Bible by handing over its first copy to His Grace Most Rev. Dr. Francis Kallarakal the Vice President of the KCBC. Most Rev. Dr. Mar Andrews Thazhathu, the President of the KCBC, Rt. Rev. Dr. Mar George Punnakkottil, the Chairman of the KCBC Bible Commission, Rev. Dr. Stephen Alathara, Deputy Secretary General of the KCBC, Rev. Dr.Joshy Mayyattil, the Secretary, the KCBC Bible Commission and Rev. Dr. George Kurukkoor were present during the ceremony

Marian Exhibition

 

The Sacred Heart Malankara Syrian Catholic Church, Thamalam organizes Marian Exhibition from 31 August to 3 September, 2012. A collection of variety of rosaries and other monuments related to Blessed Virgin Mary will be exhibited. His Beatitude Moran Mor Baselios Cleemis Catholicos, the Father and Head of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church will inaugurate the exhibition at 5.30pm on 31 August Friday.

Gnayallor Rt. Rev. Dr. Yousep Remban Called to Eternal Rest

 

Gnayallor Rt. Rev. Dr. Yousep Remban, one of the senior priests of the Major Archdiocese of Trivandrum of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church is called to eternal rest on 28 August 2012. After many decades of dedicated service in the Major Archdiocese, now he had been taking rest at Good Samaritan Home, Kumarapuram, Medical College. He has served as the Rector of the St. Aloysious Seminary, Chancellor and Judicial Vicar of the Major Archidiocese and parish priest of many parishes.

The Burial service will begin at 1.30pm on 30 August 2012, at St. Mary Basilica, Palayam. The faithful can pay homage to the body which will be brought to the Basilica at 11am. At 2.00pm the body will be carried to the St. Mary’s Cathedral Pattom where the final part of the burial service will begin at 3pm. His Beatitude Moran Mor Baselios Cleemis Catholicos will preside over the services.

Sunday School Headmasters’ Meet

 

A meeting of the Sunday School Headmasters of the Major Archieparchy of Trivandrum was held at Samunnya Pastoral Centre, Pattom on 27 August 2012. His Beatitude Moran Mor Baselios Cleemis Catholicos inaugurated the meeting. Rt. Rev. Monsignor James Paravila, Syncellus of the Major Archieparchy of Trivandrum, Very Rev. Fr. Koshy Chirakkarottu, Chancellor, Major Archieparchy of Trivandrum were present. Sunday School Directors and Animators from various Ecclesiastical Districts and Sunday School Headmasters from all parishes participated in the meeting. Rev. Dr. Philip Chempakasseril took class on the topic, “The Syro-Malankara Catholic Church, the Evanglizer.” During the meeting His Beatitude felicitated all the teachers who have completed 25 years of dedicated service in faith formation. The Blessing Ceremony and Inauguration of the new block of Clergy Home, Saayujyam, of the Major Archieparchy Trivandrum, will be officiated by His Beatitude Moran Mor Baselios Cleemis Catholicos on 27 August 2012 at 3.30 p.m.

Theological Colloquium by KCBC

 

A theological Colloquium organized by KCBC was held at Mount St. Thomas Kakkanad, the Major Archiepiscopal Curia of the Syro-Malabar Catholic Church. Observance of the Year of Faith and the Impact of the Second Vatican Council in the Kerala Church were discussed in the meeting. It was presided over by His Grace Most Rev. Dr. Andrews Thazhath, President of KCBC and His Excellency Rt. Rev. Dr. Gebhard Fuerst, the Bishop of Rottenburg-Sttutgart of Germany, gave special address on the Pervading Nature of Solar Power and its Inexpensive Technology. His Excellency reminded the responsibility and obligation of the Catholic Church to aware and to teach the people about the usefulness of Solar Power along with the preservation of the Environment.

His Grace Most Rev. Dr. Francis Kallarackel, Vice President of KCBC His Grace Most Rev.Thomas Mar Koorilos, General Secretary of KCBC and His Excellency Most Rev. Dr. Abraham Mar Yulios, Chairman of the Theological Commission spoke on the occasion.

His Excellency Most Rev. Dr. Sylvester Ponnumuthen, Bishop of Punalur, Rev. Dr. Joseph Pamplani and Rev. Sr. Dr. Namitha SIC presented papers on various topics in the Colloquium.
